Coronavirus update

The safety and health of everyone is a top priority for us at Papi’s Treks. We are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and complying with any government / World Health Organization regulations and advice.

In Peru, the virus has not spread much so far since the first confirmed case on the 6th March but still, as precautionary measure, the President on the 15th March declared a state of national emergency - this includes closing the border (no flights in or out) on the 16th March at 11:59PM local time, all businesses are closed except for grocery stores and pharmacies, people should not be on the streets except to buy essentials. All tourist sites (including the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu) have been closed until further notice.

Any international travelers that are currently in Peru, will have challenges getting back home. At this point you are advised to get accommodation and self-quarantine. Once airports open again, there may also be delays as new checks and measures in place, and some additional paperwork (Sworn Declaration of Traveler's Health) to be completed. Please contact your embassy for any support.

While we’ve seen and honored cancellations in March, April and May we still are accepting bookings for later in the year - we are open to discuss flexibility with bookings, though keep in mind that for example with the Inca Trail, the permits are only guaranteed once we have paid for them, but they are non-refundable, so we wouldn’t be able to recover those costs should your travel situation change. There are, however, always alternative Inca Trail options available that are just as memorable in their own right.

We are as always in close contact with our booked customers, but if you are thinking about a tour with Papi’s Treks and have any questions or concerns, please do get in touch. You can rest assured that we will always do our best to keep our travelers safe and stress-free, and to give you the most up to date information and advice as we receive it, since we maintain a close line of communication with authorities and other tour operators in the country.

We strongly advise you to make sure you have adequate travel insurance in place before booking, and to check your own government’s travel advice.
